Semester A recruitment update… 99% to target!

We are 99% of the way to our Semester A recruitment target for home/EU undergraduate full-time applicants with enrolments for this group following closely behind at 97%. This is a phenomenal achievement given the challenges facing HE this year, particularly as we did not significantly reduce our entry requirements in order to fill places. Thanks go to all staff involved in recruitment – from staffing in-year open events to working tirelessly in the clearing telephone and application centres to respond to queries, ensuring that applicants are confident in accepting a place at UEL. Special thanks also to the non-applicant facing teams who support summer recruitment – notably IT Services and Facilities – without whom the operation would not be a success.

Corporate Marketing has arranged a series of meetings with Schools, Planning and IAG to reflect on the clearing and late summer recruitment operation 2012 to further improve the service for 2013. If you have any feedback/suggestions to offer, please email clearing@uel.ac.uk so that they can be considered at the Late Summer Recruitment Working Group and by the Corporate Marketing team.

Recruitment closed on Friday 5 October with offers made right until the deadline. We now need to work hard to ensure that those starting their studies now settle into university life quickly and are offered the support to do so – the Student Recruitment Marketing team are helping to co-ordinate this in Schools by sharing best practice and information on useful interventions. For further information please email srm@uel.ac.uk

We are also already working on recruitment plans for February 2013, which are of particular importance in order to meet our overall 2012/3 HEFCE student number control and to recruit postgraduate and part-time students which remain an area of challenge.

Our next Open Day will take place on Saturday 27 October 2012 and we expect to see interest from UCAS 2013 applicants as well as those considering study in the new year.
