Arrow Exam update

UEL Semester A exams have begun across all three campuses until Friday 18 January. Please note that noise should be kept to a minimum during this time and disruptions should be avoided. Each site has a designated exam operations room which you can contact.

Arrow 'My UEL is...' student video now online

What does UEL mean to our students? This short video was created to find out what students love about studying at UEL, click here to watch.

The ‘My UEL’ campaign was launched late last year in response to feedback which indicated that around 70% of applicants to UEL did so on a recommendation from a current or past student. We want to build on this to promote feelings of pride and ownership among students and staff, and encourage more positive word of mouth recommendations. Arrow Call for nominations for Honorary Degrees

Each year, UEL recognises a handful of outstanding people with honorary doctorates. These are awarded for exceptional achievements in their fields and contributions to their communities, especially where they have a link to UEL or east London more widely. Last year’s honorary graduates included architect Ken Shuttleworth, Essex-born Paralympians Danny Crates and Giles Long, and BAFTA-award winning director Asif Kapadia. Nominations for 2013 are now open and any member of staff or student of UEL can put forward a nomination by downloading an application form and sending the completed form to t.williams@uel.ac.uk by 4 February 2013...

Arrow Facilities Services host Christmas party for underprivileged children Staff brought festive magic to under-privileged Newham children in collobaration with Community Links. Manager of Community Links, Mike Crim said, “I don’t think that the UEL staff realise what they have done for our children. Many of these kids have it really hard over the Christmas period and UEL has brought a little bit of light, happiness and a belief in the spirit of Christmas that they rarely experience.Thank you is not enough.”...

Arrow RBS Group inspiring women in enterprise Following a successful bid by UEL’s CEWE to RBS Group, 15 aspiring entrepreneurs will each receive a cash injection of £2,000, a designated mentor to support them in their efforts to set up a business, three months office space at UEL’s Knowledge Dock Business Centre, and six expert workshops covering the ‘nuts and bolts’ of starting up...

 

   
   
 

Arrow Mala Rao, Professor of International Health awarded OBE – Mala's dedication to work in policy, practice and research work has had major impact in both the UK and India. She established the first evidence-based cancer service network in the UK and led the delivery of the UK public health skills and career framework. Her recent work has focused on highlighting the health impacts of climate change, directing the first institute of public health in India and the development of health insurance schemes and primary care in India...

 

 

   
   
 

Arrow Docklands Campus Cycle Lockers – UEL has dedicated changing areas for cyclists at the Docklands Campus. Facilities include three showers, six full size lockers and 20 small lockers. Arrow Make a green resolution – Have you broken your New Year’s resolution already? Fear not the Sustainability Team has an alternative suggestion, make a green resolution instead! Sucess: Heritage Lottery foundation award UEL's own, Toby Butler has been awarded on behalf of the Raphael Samuel History Centre, a grant of up to £93,000 from the Heritage Lottery Foundation.The grant will be used to open up, explore and commemorate the history of the Bethnal Green tube shelter disaster in 1943. A 178 civilians were killed when attempting to shelter in Bethnal Green tube during an air raid.This 18 month project aims to maximise the amount of historical and contextual information available to visitors at the site and use the new memorial as a focus for an ambitious programme of educational and outreach activity concerned with the civilian experience of war...

Arrow UEL Conference Support Fund – has been created to financially support school-based academic conferences in the academic year 2012/13. Grants of up to £2000 will be available for successful applications. Please note applications must be completed by 22 March 2013 and all expenditure must be spent by 31 July 2013...

Arrow Call: HEA UK Travel Fund 2013 – This scheme is designed to promote the sharing of good and innovative practice.It provides funds for staff and students to engage in activities that will support the development of teaching and learning practice by contributing to travel, accommodation, subsistence and event fees that will be incurred...

 

   
   
 

Arrow UEL Undergraduate Research Internship open to applications – Please remind students of this great opportunity to become a research intern at UEL .The chosen student will get the chance to work with academics on important research projects for up to ten weeks over the spring and summer period. Arrow TFL require student and staff feedback on the Barclays Cycle Superhighway – TFL would like to hear your thoughts on the Barclays Cycle Superhighway Route 2 from Bow roundabout to Stratford Town Centre. The extension would bring 3km of new cycle lanes, separated from traffic, improving safety for cyclists. Students and staff can view the plans for improvement and give their feedback on proposals at public exhibitions in Stratford or by clicking here...

Arrow Music industry work experience for record label – Criminal Records are offering students the opportunity to become an intern and to be involved in one of their 2013 campaigns. Arrow Weight watchers – Weight watchers classes has already started back in SportsDock and will take place every Wednesday at 6pm and Friday at 12.30pm, so you can pop in on your lunch or after work, whatever suits you. Weight watchers meetings will help encourage and motivate you to lose weight and keep it off.
