Job Brokerage Aim
To refer residents in Well London target areas to local employment support services.
Activities:
- A directory of employment support services of all the Well London areas has been created. This includes the details of 106 job brokerage support organisations located within three miles from the target LSOAs. However, the list could be improved, thus if you have further contacts that do not appear in this document, please send it to m.bertotti@uel.ac.uk.
- Job brokerage referrals have also been set up in a number of areas. The community engagement has collected information about residents seeking employment in all phase two areas. A total of 107 people responded that they were looking for employment and details of local employment support agencies have been sent to them. In some instances, details of residents have been given to employment support agencies so that residents can be contacted and supported to find training and/or employment.
- Early next year, and every three months thereafter, a sample of residents will be contacted to monitor how the service is working and assess its effectiveness.
Social Enterprise Aim
To provide signposting services and models of best practice to Well London supported social enterprises.
In order to meet this aim, IHHD is working on the following:
- IHHD has just produced a guide to the support available for social enterprises. The guide has been devised to help and inform social enterprises (or would be social enterprises) of opportunities available in terms of raising funding, accessing business support and training, finding suitable premises, and different legal forms available. In particular, given the importance of funding for any activity, the guide reviews the processes of applying for funding in order to help social enterprises to understand what type of funding is most appropriate for their specific needs and where they might be able to find it.
- Assessing the impact of social enterprises that are part of the Well London programme. A community cafe in one of the WL areas in Hounslow has received help with assessing the ability of the cafe to run as a social enterprise. Changing Minds will receive in-depth help to assess the impact, draw a business plan, and seek funding to set up a social enterprise to help training people with mental health problems to become trainers and help other people with similar problems.
- Activities for next year will include the creation of a good practice guide on the types and impacts of social enterprises. Hopefully, this will provide residents and Well London partners with examples of social enterprises that could be set up in Well London target areas.
- Signposting activity is available so if you have a social enterprise or you think of setting one up, just contact Marcello Bertotti on the details below
