Areas of Research

The Institute is building on both the track record of its core staff and that of other research groups within UEL to grow programmes of research, scholarly activity and knowledge transfer within three key themes:

• Wellbeing and Regeneration focuses on the linkages between social and economic development and health and wellbeing in East London and the generation and use of knowledge in the design and delivery of regeneration; and in monitoring and evaluating its impact.
• Health and Development addresses the complex relationship between health and development in poor countries with a particular focus on the impact of international transfers and vertically funded health programmes in HIV, poverty reduction strategies and the processes of qualification as Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPCs).
• Wellbeing and Globalisation addresses the complex interdependencies between poor and rich countries in achieving development and growth of wellbeing over the coming period.
