Alex Bax is an urban and social policy specialist with 18 years experience in London strategic government. He was Mayor of London Ken Livingstone’s health and sustainable development advisor from 2006-8,and the Mayor’s planning and development advisor in 2005/6. Other roles at London City Hall include Chairing London’s structural fund committees and a wide range of delivery partnerships including the Greater London Alcohol and Drugs Alliance and the East London Green Grid. He is London Child Poverty Commission member, member of the board of London Food, and sits on the National Institute for Clinical Excellence PDG on Health and Planning.
Expertise on urban planning, development and major city infrastructure delivery; on health inequalities, poverty and social exclusion; on post 16 skills and training, European Social Funds and European Regional Development Funds; on London government and politics, and city administration; on climate change, urban greening and environmental policy; on information and communications technologies, city networking, broadband and the digital divide; on the National Health Service and local government service delivery; and on social capital and the role of the voluntary sector.
Currently working to shape a long term study of the balance in UK health research and development spending between medical/pharmaceutical research and preventive/social determinants health related research.
External to UEL Alex is providing support to UCLH to develop a new model of healthcare for street rough sleepers in London and consulting
