UEL has joined the Green Impact scheme to further involve staff in reducing our environmental impact. The Green Impact Scheme is an environmental accreditation scheme with an awards element, designed for university departments, where departments are challenged to implement a number of easy, practical actions, scoring points for the amount that they do. These then lead to Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum awards which will be distributed at the end of the academic year.
IHHD as part of UEL is aiming for Bronze and has already implemented measures that will support the first submission to the accreditation panel on the 14 March 2011. Some of these measures include the use of tap water instead of bottled water for all meetings and reminders at strategic locations for staff to switch off lights and monitors. This initiative has not only helped us create a positive impact on our environment but going green has engendered team spirit and camaraderie.
