The Institute for Health and Human Development (IIHD) was set up in March 2006 and brings together expertise across the university to carry out research on health and wellbeing and their social, economic and cultural determinants.
The Institute and its people have a track record of research geared towards policy and intervention development in both developing and developed countries; a commitment to community participation in research, and a focus on the potential of the cultural and creative industries to influence consumption lifestyles and promote health and wellbeing.
IHHD aims to lead research agendas and inform policy and intervention locally, nationally and internationally. IHHD is developing rapidly, both as a new physical centre with core staffing and a new virtual centre cohering intellectual resources across the University and its schools. IHHD is working to secure new funding for research, scholarship, knowledge transfer and consultancy from a broad range organisations.
Work is developed and conducted within coherent Themed Programmes which build on UEL's existing strengths and reputation and which exploit opportunities presented by current interest in social economic and human development in East London and in global trajectories of social and economic development and wellbeing.
