Brief biography:

Dr Noha Mellor is a native Egyptian, who spent many years in Scandinavia before residing in the UK. She has lectured at several European HE institutions and she is the author of The Making of Arab News (Rowman & Littlefield, 2005). Her main research interest is the challenging process of meaning making in an increasingly mediated world, and particularly how trans-national media manages the distance between audience and the Other, e.g. in news on disasters and conflicts.

Besides her former academic experience at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, Noha Mellor has several years of professional experience in journalism as News Producer both for Danmarks Radio (Danish Broadcasting) and the BBC World Service. Thus she combines the theoretical with the practical in her recent and ongoing research in journalism and mediation. Outside of academia, Dr Mellor contributes her expertise in Arab journalism to current trans-national initiatives to promote peace, e.g. her contribution to the Media Initiative of the EUROMED (EU partnership with Mediterranean countries) as well as Alliance of Civilizations Initiative under the auspices of the UN. She is also on the Board of Editors for KURIR (Kingston University Research & Innovation Reports).
