Parminderjit - BSc Pharmacology

picture of Parminderjit

Originally I came to the University of East London to read Biomedical Science as I ultimately wanted to train as a medical doctor, but after concluding my first year, I felt Biomedical Science wasn’t the right fit for me. I confided with my lecturers and after much discussion they helped me decide that the BSc Pharmacology would be perfect for my academic strengths, needs and interests. My lecturers were very supportive during my transfer period, helping me consider all my options, tie up lose ends and settle into my new course.

I’ve loved studying my new degree and felt utterly engaged to the subject of Pharmacology. In my element, I went from strength to strength. It’s a great course if you love laboratory work and are thrilled by the study of disease and drug treatment. The course is highly relevant, modern and opens the door to great careers. The lecturers are inspirational and down to earth. I can say hand on heart there is no way that I could have graduated with a first class degree without their coaching, and support and spirit of generosity.

I was also lucky to have made life long friends at the School of Health of Bioscience too. Having not taken the straightforward academic route, I’ve seen some of my peers come and go, even though some of them are no longer my study buddies we remain the best of friends. In that respect, I was blessed with the best of both worlds at the University; the academic and social support and networks allowed me to thrive as student and as someone coming to live in London for the first time. Thanks to the School, I’m one step closer to realizing my dream and in October 2009 I commence my first year at medical school. I grew up and became an adult during my time at UEL and I genuinely can’t think of a better place to go on that all-important journey.

If there’s any advice I’d give, it’s choose the course that is right for you, make use of your lecturers – they are the most valuable and essential resource you’ll have, between that and some hard graft, you’ll get to where you want.
