After finishing my A Levels in 2004, I had my fill of study and although I acknowledged I would return to study soon I did not feel I was ready or hungry to continue into higher education right then. I worked full time and recharged my academic batteries. When 2006 rolled around I got the study bug again and this time it was back with a vengeance; I was ready to study and wanted to start immediately. Luckily I knew what I wanted to study and I discovered the University of East London offered enrolment for my course at the beginning of year as well as the tradition September starts. I applied to read BSc in Sports Development and was offered a place to study in January 2007.
It’s been a blast all the way – the course is super; it has a great core of essential modules that give you a thorough grounding and then topped with more specialist subjects that really open your eyes about how far reaching sports development is in society today. One of the lectures I enjoyed the most was Sports Management and Leisure which opened my eyes to Sports Psychology and it was this that affirmed one of my aspirations to work in Sports Marketing. I’m also so glad that I went to university when I wanted to – it’s made all the difference in optimizing how much I enjoy the course and how hard I apply myself – I know I’m here because I want to be here. Not only that, I feel I know myself even better and have a greater grasp on my hopes and dreams thanks to my experience in the School of Health, Sport and Bioscience. Ultimately I’d love to move into policy making and work in developing a strong infrastructure, appreciation and practice of Sports in Nigeria.
