Arun - BSc Physiotherapy

Picture of Arun

It wasn’t until I stumbled into a part time job as a Physiotherapy assistant after finishing my first degree in Sports and Exercise Science that I got the bug for Physiotherapy and discovered the true value of doing something you love and applying yourself. When I did my first degree, I felt like I was going into higher education as it seemed the done thing and as a result my heart was never really in it. Feeling a little adrift, I took time out to travel and to give me the time and space to consider my options and interests.

Returning to the UK, I got a job as a physiotherapy assistant and fell in love with the profession immediately. I had a true epiphany moment! I enjoyed a great rapport with my line manager and he advised me of the great courses at the University of East London. I signed up straight away and luckily my job experience and manager’s recommendation gave me the edge and confidence, and won a place to read a BSc in Physiotherapy.

I’ve just finished my first year and can’t believe the difference between doing my first and second degree. I’m loving each moment and feel I have a purpose, passion and hunger; these days I work hard and play hard. For the first time I have big dreams and ambitions, and my course is fuelling that thirst. I’m taking advantage of every opportunity that comes my way: I am the joint CSP representative for my cohort, enjoying placements around London and I am currently arranging my elective overseas placement for next summer.

Needless to say I feel I’m doing it right the second time round. One day I hope to have my own clinic and also do some teaching. I feel so lucky I found the university that can help me achieve all that and take a chance one time drifter.
