Virtual Learning Environment

Students at UEL are provided with online support for their academic studies via a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). A VLE is a suite of online tools that can enrich the learning experience for students by providing a range of additional online study resources. Predominantly designed by your lecturers, these may include lecture notes, powerpoint presentations and web pages, announcements, one-to-one and one-to-many communication facilities, individual and collaborative assignments / coursework and both formative and summative online assessments.

We have now moved to a new VLE we call UEL Plus. This new and more sophisticated VLE is powered by Blackboard Learning System - Vista Enterprise.

In 2000 we adopted WebCT as our supported VLE, but we are now moving to a new VLE. This more sophisticated VLE is powered by Blackboard Learning System - Vista Enterprise - and will be called UEL Plus.

We continue to support WebCT but are carrying out a phased migration from WebCT to UEL Plus throughout 2006/7 and 2007/8. More details of the School's migration plans and general information on UEL Plus are available in the UEL Plus section. The School of Distance and E-Learning now supports over 1100 online modules using either WebCT or UEL Plus.
