What time do I need to submit my coursework?

Please check the hand-in dates via UEL Plus with the individual modules; information will also be given whether coursework will need to be submitted online only /via the Helpdesk or both.

Deadline for all hard copy coursework submission at the Helpdesk is at 4.30pm. There is a drop box if students miss this 4.30pm deadline, which closes at 9am the following day.

Work submitting after the 4.30pm deadline, the Helpdesk cannot guarantee the safe arrival of work. Work submitted with Barcodes should receive a receipt via UEL direct as normal. The Helpdesk can not be held accountable if the work becomes displaced upon submitting through the drop box, all necessary precaution needs to be taken by the student to prevent this.

Turn-it-in will be left open till 11.59pm on the deadline date and there should also be a 7 day late submission turn-it-in after this period. Student should be made aware of the need for extenuation for late coursework submission. All forms need to be submitted at the Helpdesk for inputting before sending to Quality Assurance.

Where can I get a Barcode cover sheet for hard copy coursework submission to the Helpdesk?

  • Log into UEL Direct
  • Go to “MY Record”
  • Click on “My Programme” in the menu on the left side of the screen
  • In the top box click on “Assessment log date with barcode front sheet”

You will see a list of all your modules with deadline dates and dates submitted for previously completed modules.

Each piece of work yet to be submitted will have a grey “Download” button. Click on this and print off the barcode cover sheet.

Each cover sheet is specific to the module, so it’s important that you print off the correct form for your piece of work.

If you have more than one component in your module you may have a barcode cover sheet for each component to be handed in on the same day. Please include the barcode cover sheet with each component.

The form should be placed at the front of your work, so that it can be easily scanned when submitting at the Helpdesk.

What format should my coursework be in?

All written assessed work must be submitted in typed form in the following format unless specifically directed otherwise by your module tutor.

  • Minimum font size – 12pt
  • Minimum line spacing - 1½
  • Pages clearly numbered
  • Student number given in the headers or footers
  • Word count included
  • Printed on one side of page only
  • Pages collated and attached together (please do not put individual pages into plastic envelopes as it makes the script difficult to mark).
  • You must retain a copy of the completed work you submit for assessment.
  • Module leaders will specify which pieces of work will be required to be submitted to Turnitin, the plagiarism and collusion detection software, before submitting a hard paper copy to the Help Desk.
  • Submission of assignments takes place at the Help Desk in University House UH104 at any time before the specified deadline given by your module leader.
  • Each piece of coursework must be submitted with a multi-paged front cover sheet.
  • You must present your student ID card when submitting your work.
  • You are able to access your receipt via UEL Direct.

What can I do if I’m late submitting a piece of coursework?

If for some unforeseen reason you are unable to submit a piece of coursework by the specified deadline, you may submit the work up to a maximum of SEVEN days late.

If you do so, you must fill in an Extenuation Form, which can be downloaded from http://www.uel.ac.uk/qa/extenuation.htm. You should describe the reason for your none attendance and provide supporting evidence. This form will be considered by a University–wide committee who will rule on whether your circumstances are acceptable or not.

Students wishing to claim Extenuating Circumstances after the published deadlines and after the Seven day deadline for normal extenuation must submit a Late Extenuation Form IN ADDITION to the Extenuation Form.

There are guidelines for what may constitute as acceptable circumstances can be found on http://www.uel.ac.uk/qa/documents/extenuatingcircumstances.doc

Should your circumstances be deemed to be acceptable, then the piece of work mark will be released and the mark will count towards your module assessment. If however your circumstances are not deemed acceptable your work mark will not be released, you will fail that component of the assessment and your module marked will be capped.

What can I do if I’ve missed an exam due to illness?

If for some unforeseen reason you are unable to attend an exam, you have up to SEVEN days to complete an extenuating form and return to the Helpdesk. An Extenuation Form, can be downloaded from http://www.uel.ac.uk/qa/extenuation.htm. You should describe the reason for your none attendance and provide supporting evidence. This form will be considered by a University–wide committee who will rule on whether your circumstances are acceptable or not.

Students wishing to claim Extenuating Circumstances after the seven days published deadlines must submit a Late Extenuation Form IN ADDITION to the Extenuation Form.

There are guidelines for what may constitute as acceptable circumstances can be
found on http://www.uel.ac.uk/qa/documents/extenuatingcircumstances.doc

Should your circumstances be deemed to be acceptable, then you will be given the opportunity to take the exam at another date and not be capped. If however your circumstances are not deemed acceptable your exam mark will be 0 (zero) and you will have to take the exam at the next available date when your mark will be capped at 40%.
