Can I change my programme once I start?

You can change but this needs to be done within the first two weeks of starting and will need to be authorised by the programme field leader who may need to check your qualifications. It will be your responsibility to ensure that you catch up on any work missed.

Can I switch from full-time to part-time?

If you want to change your programme or mode of attendance, or want to intermit (take some time out from your studies), this must be agreed with the School.

Whatever changes are agreed, an email is sent to our Student Records department who will amend your account accordingly as well as send a change of circumstance form to your Local Education Authority.

If you are a part-time student, a reconciliation is done each semester on the modules you are taking against the tuition fees that you have been charged to ensure that you are charged the correct amount.

Do I have a personal tutor?

You will be allocated at least one personal tutor, and in some cases you will have two.You can check who they are by logging onto your UEL-Direct account, Module Registration.

I have decided to take a break from my studies. Can I do this?

Yes, but any break has to be agreed with the School. You can take a break for up to two years but you must keep us informed of what you are planning to do. You can not take a break if you have studied for less than one semester otherwise you will need to be withdrawn from the course and will need to reapply when you wish to return.

If you decide to take a break after completing at least one semester but have resists to take in August these need to completed; otherwise it counts an opportunity missed.

What’s UEL Direct, UEL Plus and Web mail?

UEL Direct is where you can find details of your student records in terms of address details, programme of study etc. This is also where you will complete each re-enrolment/ enrolment session by clicking on the links in your in tray during the appropriate months February/September. This needs to be done at the start of each academic year.

By logging into UEL Direct you are able to access UEL Plus which contains your teaching materials for each module that you’re registered for. If you’re unable to view your modules via UEL Plus it may mean that you’re not registered for the module. You will need to contact the Helpdesk asap to get this resolved.

Webmail works in a similar manner to Microsoft Outlook your email address is "u" followed by your student number ie u0923453. This will be the main point of contact for the Helpdesk to all students informing of any important notices.
The Helpdesk may also be sending out warning/withdrawal emails in regards to attendance via this format, please ensure that you clear you in box from time to time.

Why can’t I log into my student account?

There may be several reasons for this. Check the following first:

  • If you owe monies to the university some of your access rights may have been withdrawn. You can check out whether this is the case by looking at your personal account which will still be available. Once you pay the outstanding monies your account will be unfrozen. You should contact Credit Control as a matter of urgency on 0208 223 7333.
  • You may have blocked your password. In this case you need to telephone the IT Helpdesk on 020 8223 2468 to reset your password.
  • There may be an issue with your enrolment. You can check whether this is the case at either of the Student Information & Enquiry desks at Docklands or Stratford.

My name / date of birth is incorrect, how can I correct this?

Take your passport/driving licence or birth certificate to Student Services where they can check and amended.

I’m struggling to cope with the pressure of studying, what can I do?

You can contact your personal tutor and arrange an appointment to see them where advice can be given to help you with your studies. Alternatively contact the Counselling Service.
