Brief biography

Since I became an emeritus professor in 2003, I have continued to pursue my research interests at UEL, while supporting PhD students to complete their studies. At the same time I have been a visiting research fellow at Oxford Brookes University collaborating with Dr Helen Dawes Group Leader of Movement Science Group in the School of Life Sciences.

Areas of Interest/Summary of Expertise

My research interests focus on how physical activity impacts on physiological function and mitigates the effects of disease and trauma.  In recent times the emphases has been on motion analyses, changes in skeletal muscle contractile properties and neural activation together with oxygen uptake as a measure of physical fitness.  The aim at all times has been to evaluate underlying changes in patho-physiological mechanisms and the resulting changes in motor dysfunction.
