Brief biography

Nena completed her PhD (Sociology of Health and Illness) in 2009 and CLTHE in 2007 both at London South Bank University. She also holds an MA in Social Policy and Administration from the University of Nottingham (2004) and a BA in Pre-Professional Studies (Pre-clinical medicine) and Spanish Literature from the University of Notre Dame (South Bend, IN, USA) (2001).

Nena is a Senior Lecturer in Public Health and is involved in teaching at both undergraduate and postgradute levels. Proir to working at UEL, Nena taught at London South Bank University and Deakin University (Melbourne, Aus). She has also supervised research students in the areas of HIV and pregnancy, HIV and domestic violence, HIV and cultural risks and the practice of FGM migrant populations.

In addition to lecturing she is an early career reseracher and has worked on a variety of research studies in the areas of health and social development.  Her PhD research examined black women's experineces of living with HIV and AIDS and the representation of black women in HIV and AIDS health promotion.
