Research in Health, Sport and Bioscience

In recent years, Research & Knowledge Exchange (R&KE) in the School has developed significantly, largely due to the success in RAE2008 and our revised R&KE strategy (2009-2014) bringing together our core research themes. Research is carried out at national and international levels, undertaken with a variety of partners including the NHS, industry and other UK and overseas universities.

Research is concentrated in research groups, including the internationally recognised Institute for Health and Human Development. The Institute and its members have a track record of research geared towards policy and intervention development in both developing and developed countries; a commitment to community participation in research; and a focus on the potential of the cultural and creative industries to influence consumption lifestyles and promote health and wellbeing. Other research groups have been developed and with increased numbers of PhD students make a major contribution to the overall research capacity of the School.

Our postgraduate research programmes offer the opportunity to be part of our dynamic academic community and gain research training in areas that make a difference to human health and science in the local, national and international context. Research areas include: Public and community health, physiotherapy, podiatry, medical biosciences, biotechnology, forensic science, sports science and herbal medicine.
