We understand that clinical staff have busy and stressful lives. Our programmes are designed to allow you to plan your professional development and to learn at your own pace. In addition, they are designed to be flexible; you can sign up for a postgraduate certificate and later, transfer to study for a post graduate diploma or a master’s degree.
A postgraduate certificate may be studied full-time over a 6 month period or part-time over 1-3 years. A postgraduate diploma or masters degree can be studied full-time for one year or part-time for 2-6 years.
The School of Health, Sport and Bioscience has a long history of providing innovative post graduate education. We have strong links with the NHS, working on the educational agenda for health and social care in partnership with strategic health authorities and NHS trusts.
Our programmes promote the principles of evidence based practice and develop the clinicians’ ability to critically evaluate and apply evidence in practice. They are designed to ensure that clinicians from different disciplines share educational experiences; promoting a more collaborative approach to practice.
All programmes are delivered on-site at the university and are taught in an interactive learning environment in which you will be encouraged to communicate ideas, knowledge and understanding. Many of the practice-based modules involve laboratory work in our new purpose-built Centre for Clinical Education and in our research laboratories.
Each module has been mapped to the Skills for Health competences to aid you when planning your educational programme; this supports your career development and negotiating access to training.
The higher level of award “Masters in Advanced Practice for Health Professions” reflects the points on the new NHS Career Framework defined as Senior or Specialist Practitioners and Advanced Practitioners.
