
Mala Rao, Professor of International Health in the Institute for Health and Human Development at UEL was awarded an O.B.E. in the Queen's New Year's Honours List for services to public health in the UK and overseas. Her 30 years work in policy, practice and research work has had major impact in both the UK and India. She established the first evidence-based cancer service network in the UK and led the delivery of the UK public health skills and career framework. Her recent work has focused on highlighting the health impacts of climate change, directing the first institute of public health in India and the development of health insurance schemes and primary care in India.
