UEL student, Gemma Gibbons, wins silver medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games

Monday 6 August 2012

UEL postgraduate student, Gemma Gibbons, has won a silver medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Gemma, an Exercise Science and Health student and one of UEL’s elite athletes, reached the final of the -78kg category in women’s judo to clinch the silver.

“I chose UEL as it seemed to cater for my educational and sporting needs. Being at UEL has exceeded all my expectations, the teaching is first-class and all the benefits from being a UEL sports scholar have majorly assisted me in my judo training and performance.” says Gemma.

UEL’s School of Health, Sports and Bioscience offers flexible study options, which are ideal for athletes and students. Students not only benefit from the supportive and ambitious learning environment the School provides but also the world-class sports facilities on offer,  including SportsDock – UEL’s new £21 million sports centre, chosen by Team USA to be their High Performance Training Centre during the London 2012 Games.
