You may be aware of WEEE but do you know how it affects you at UEL? WEEE is the UK legislation that covers waste electrical and electronic equipment. UEL has a policy governing the disposable of all of these items. According to WRAP here in the UK we send to landfill 22,000 tonnes of batteries every year. Non-rechargeable batteries can actually be recycled and according to a survey 9 out of 10 people would do so if they had a nearby facility. Well look no further - we now have a collection bucket in the School Office. Drop off your normal household batteries next time you collect your printing or make a cuppa! Of course you could use rechargeable ones!

This is the second year we have entered the UEL Green Impact Competition (http://www.uel.ac.uk/greenthing/greenimpact.htm). Green Impact is a national project run by the National Union of Students and the Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges, with 47 universities taking part this year.
Last year we achieved a first class Bronze award and this year we’re going for a Silver and hope to obtain a 2:2 award.
