THE SILENT EPIDEMIC’ - OSTEOPOROSIS

If the threat of fractures to the hip and spine, decrease in height, reduction in quality of life, (to name but a few problems) doesn’t worry you, delete now.

Osteoporosis is a disease that strikes without warning. Once you have it, it’s yours for LIFE. It is a condition affecting 1 in every 3 women and 1 in every 9 men. Women characteristically suffer after the age of menopause, but men can begin to suffer from a much earlier age. As it is largely preventable it should be considered as a paediatric disease with geriatric consequences, as poor lifestyle habits starting in childhood will help store problems that will only manifest themselves later in life. You may only be 25 now and not worried about being 60,

AGE Groups:
OSTEOPROROSIS
Anyone over the age of 25 years until the age of 80 can be assessed, although females over the age of 40 are ideal candidates for the test. If you have below normal bone density, you may have many years to alter that status through diet, weight bearing exercise and lifestyle changes to lower your risk to ensure a long, pain free life.

Do bear in mind that we live longer than previous generations and 60 is not old! We take great care to save our money and invest in pension schemes etc., as there is such a high risk of this disease affecting so many of us, a small outlay now would be a very smart investment.

Staff express great interest for ASI Artery Assessment in June during Heart Week and we would like to make this service available again.

Cardiovascular Disease.
The United Kingdom has some of the highest coronary heart disease rates in the world.

The ASI artery assessment is an American medical device, which measures the degree of hardening of the brachial artery in the arm. It is a painless and effective measure of the condition of the artery wall, information that cannot be measured with a standard blood pressure monitor. Individuals identified to be at risk are able to focus their attention on reducing cardiovascular risk factors, which are known to cause arterial hardening.

CARDIOVASCULAR RISK FACTORS

Anyone over the age of 20 years, both male and female are ideal candidates for the test, especially if you have never undertaken an ASI artery elasticity assessment. If you are found to have an artery with reduced elasticity, you will be advised as to the steps required to reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease

This service is not free but costs £20 per assessment, However, those who wish to have the ASI artery assessment and Osteoporosis Scanning will be given a £5 discount i.e. only £35 charge for both tests. This fee is dramatically lower than identical assessments performed at some private clinics where the charge can be over £100.
