How we handle job applications
We encourage you to consider us as your next employer because UEL is a great place to work. Here are some guidelines about the way we will deal with your application.
Vacancies
- Vacancies are advertised on the UEL jobs site and you’ll find step-by-step guidance for completing your application.
- We also advertise in appropriate media - normally a relevant website, national paper or journal and on the leading HE sector website jobs.ac.uk.
- Applications are made via our online application form at the UEL jobs site. If an online application is not possible you can request a recruitment pack by post and this will be sent by first class mail, or airmail for overseas applicants, within four working days.
- If you have a disability that means you cannot complete the application form, let us know and we can discuss applications in an alternative format.
Shortlisting and invitation to interview
- Shortlisting is done as soon as possible after the closing date. We will contact you to let you know if you have not been shortlisted.
- If you have been shortlisted and invited to interview, you will receive an email and/or letter confirming this. Normally you can expect at least two weeks’ notice of the interview date.
- The letter will also include a copy of the job description and any other relevant details (eg, map of interview location). You will also be told what you need to bring to the interview and be advised of any selection tests or presentations.
- All candidates need to bring original documentation confirming eligibility to work in the UK. See Home Office guidance.
Interview
- Your interview depends on the post you’ve applied for, but typically it will last between 30 minutes and one hour. There may also be additional time scheduled for selection tests or presentations and tours of UEL.
- Interviews normally take place in the afternoon.
- You will be reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses – second class rail fare, bus and Underground. We do not normally pay for taxis or refreshments. Please ensure you keep receipts.
- You will be contacted as soon as possible after the interview and told whether or not you have been successful.
Please note that all applicant details are treated as confidential.
