Induction: How It Works

Induction at UEL begins as soon as a new member of staff has been offered and accepted a job.

Once a member of staff joins, induction must be completed within six weeks – although, of course, support meetings and guidance continue throughout the six-month probationary period and beyond.

The essential induction stages

Induction is divided into three main stages:

Before arrival The newly appointed staff member is sent paperwork by HR Services. Their line manager prepares for their arrival by ensuring essential training, assistance and facilities are in place. See Before Arrival.

School/service induction This takes place over a six-week period and covers the essentials of their working role, information about their department and also introductions to key contacts across other departments. See School/Service Induction.

University induction This is a half-day programme that explains the vision, values and main policies of UEL. It also offers the opportunity to network and book essential and optional training courses. See University Induction.
