Our role is to enable our managers to recruit, motivate, develop and retain high-quality staff who are committed to, and equipped for, achieving UEL's strategic aims and objectives. We consider that we play a key role in supporting positive cultural change.
We provide a wide range of professional services in all areas of employment. We aim to be customer-focused, inclusive, open and innovative, keeping up to date with changes in employment law and best practice in our sector. We also contribute to regional and national HR initiatives. We have recently updated a number of our employment policies to make them more comprehensive and user-friendly, and intend completing the cycle by the end of this year.
We have also installed and developed a new computerised HR database, including a payroll module which is fully integrated with the HR system. Our database can produce comprehensive management reports and is an essential tool in planning for our future needs. We are rolling out this system to our schools and services in 2010, so that all staff will have online access to their payslips and will be able to amend some of their personal details. In addition, staff absences will be recorded by intranet reporting.
HR Services is also working as a dedicated team to implement UEL's HR Services annual plan for 2009-10.
HR Services currently has 25 staff within five operational groups providing a service to approximately 1,700 staff including our hourly-paid lecturers. It comprises the HR Office, payroll, HERA job evaluation/reward management, staff and organisational development and occupational health and safety.
