Health and Safety for Staff with Disabilities

Health and Safety for Staff with Disabilities

Disabilities declared by new or existing staff members allow us consider health and safety issues that may arise either in day-to-day situations or in emergencies. There are two key issues to consider:

Adapting equipment/working environment

The Occupational Health team can advise on adaptations or additional equipment for new staff. Ideally this is done before the new staff member joins us. The service is also available to existing staff who require adaptations because of a new or existing health condition.

Fire and Evacuation Procedures

Fire and Evacuation Procedures

Hearing impaired staff can be issued with vibrating pagers to ensure they are kept informed of emergencies such as fire. We also have Fire Refuges on every floor above Level 1. These signposted and fire-protected areas are designed as a temporary safe haven for anyone who may require assistance in leaving the building. Occupational Health can advise on any other procedures to follow in the event of an evacuation or emergency.
