Learning and Development Policy

Learning and Development Policy

UEL’s continuing success as a thriving modern university depends on recruiting, engaging and developing staff who have the skills, knowledge and experience to deliver our strategic plan and ensure both academic and service excellence.

The Staff Training and Development Policy builds on our achievement of Investors in People (IIP) Status. Find out more.

Key principles of the Policy are that it should develop staff, enhance communications and relationships, build UEL as an organisation and create supporting systems and processes. In particular the Policy emphasises:

  • Equality of opportunity – equal access to training and development by all staff from all areas of UEL. This includes hourly paid, fixed term and part-time members of our team
  • Monitoring and evaluating – Using feedback and providing evidence to assess the effectiveness of training, continually improve provision and ensure a return on the investment in training provision
  • Encouraging applications from staff – UEL supports this by waiving tuition fees in most cases, provided certain conditions are met.
