Your Visit to the Clinic

Although trained in the same diagnostic skills as orthodox doctors, Western herbalists take a more holistic approach to illness.

Herbalists seek to get to the very root of the problem. Once the root cause has been identified, it can be managed. The approach differs from conventional medicine which merely suppresses the symptoms, but often doesn’t rid the body of the ailment.

At the Stratford Centre for Herbal Medicine, your first consultation will generally last around one hour. The herbalist will talk to you about your medical history, any relevant lifestyle choices, your emotional state, and generally build up a picture of you, your illness and your body.

Think of it as a joint effort between you and the practitioner, with one ultimate goal - to restore your body to health.

Your herbalist will use a wide range of plant-based materials to help your condition and make your body healthier - from tinctures, fluid extracts and syrups, to capsules and creams. All our preparations are made-up and dispensed on the premises.

As well as any herbal treatments your herbalist prescribes, they may also make some recommendations regarding your general diet and lifestyle.

One consultation is often enough to start you on the road to good health. Commonly, a second consultation will follow around two weeks’ later, depending on the individual herbalist, the patient and the type of illness. This may be a slightly shorter appointment than your first one. Any subsequent consultations are normally on a monthly basis.
