Liquorice or Glycyrrhiza glabra

Why should I take it?

Liquorice is widely used in bronchial problems such as catarrh, bronchitis and coughs. It reduces throat irritation and yet has an expectorant action. It produces its demulcent and expectorant effects by stimulation of tracheal mucous secretion.

The Latin name glycyrrhiza derives from the Greek meaning “sweet root” .Glycyrrhizin  a constituent of Liquorice  is considered to be  many times stronger than sucrose, which encourages the production of hormones such as hydrocortisone.


What are its effects?

Liquorice has expectorant, anti-inflammatory, demulcent, antiviral, adrenocorticotrophic  and antitussive properties


What can it treat?

Bronchial catarrh, bronchitis, chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, colic, primary adrenocortical insufficiency.
