Waste Overview: a look at the long term

In comparison: year on year - looking at 2011/12 compared to 2010/11

The graphs below show the monthly overall tonnage, and the amounts sent to recycling, Energy for Waste (EfW) and landfill, for 2010/11 and 2011/12 (rates calculated as per academic calendar, i.e. 2011/12 indicates Aug 2011 - July 2012). Click on each graph to enlarge it.

As can be seen, there are peaks and troughs throughout the year. Some of this may be explained by fluctuations in student numbers on site at different points of the year. It is, however, hard to extrapolate from this data alone.

The higher overall tonnage for 2011/12 is due to the inclusion of halls of residence data, made possible for the first time due to our switch in August 2011 to having residences waste collected by Veolia instead of Newham Council.

Got any ideas about how we could improve recycling at UEL?
