Renewable Energy

Renewable energy

In March 2008 Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks visited our Docklands campus to launch the university’s renewable energy initiative. Generating our own energy on site is an important way of reducing carbon dioxide emissions alongside making sure that our buildings are energy efficient.

130 high-efficiency solar photovoltaic (PV) panels have been installed on the roof of UEL's Business School and Library. To date (May 2010) the total energy generated by the system is 22,849kWh which equals 12,000kg of CO2 saved from the atmosphere.

A 2.5kW Proven wind turbine has also been installed on campus, adjacent to the Knowledge Dock.
