Display Energy Certificates

To raise public awareness of energy use, the EU Buildings Performance Directive has been introduced. This requires all public buildings over 1000 m2 to display an energy label known as a Display Energy Certificate (DEC).

A DEC shows the energy performance of a building based on actual metered energy consumption over a period of 12 months. The Operational Rating (OR) is a numerical indicator of the annual carbon dioxide emissions from the building and a rating of 100 is the average.

This rating is shown on a scale from A to G, where A is the lowest CO2 emissions (best) and G is the highest CO2 emissions (worst). A DEC is valid for one year and is updated annually.
