Sources of Research Funding

Regularly Recurring Research Funding Deadlines

Many of the research funding bodies referred to elsewhere on these pages, in addition to making specific calls for proposals under given topics or disciplines, maintain a number of "responsive mode" funding streams for which there are no formal deadlines or for which deadlines are set on a regularly recurring basis. The following table presents a large number of these and provides links to the relevant funder.

Please note that this is a new initiative and we may not have spotted every possible award that meets the above definition. If we have missed any, please let us know. Please also note that some deadlines have already expired. This is because this is a grant which we believe is operated on a recurring basis but at present no future date has currently been published. It is likely that, for example, a November 2007 deadline will suggest a November 2008 deadline, etc; as we clarify these we will update this page. As always this information is provided for guidance only and if there is any conflict between information provided here and that published by the funder themselves, then the funder's information should be regarded as definitive.

* EPSRC defines responsive mode funding as a flexible scheme with a large scale of projects supported ranging from small value, short term grants to multi-million pound research programmes. Key features of the responsive mode are (1) there are no closing dates; (2) no constraint on the field of research so long as it falls within the EPSRC's remit; and (3) research quality is the main criterion against which the proposals are assessed.
