Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe. Call for proposals: Preparatory access. No closing dates, applications accepted all year round. PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) Research Infrastructure (RI) allows researchers from across Europe to apply for time on high-end high-performance computers via a peer review process. Preparatory access allows researchers to apply for code scalability testing and also support for code development and optimisation from PRACE RI members software experts. Preparatory access allows researchers to optimise their codes before responding to project calls. Machine(s) available: IBM Blue Gene/P “JUGENE” (GCS@Jülich, Germany) and, after 1st of January 2011, BULL Bullx cluster “CURIE” (GENCI/CEA, Bruyères-Le-Châtel, France). - Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe. Call for proposals: Project Access. Deadline 11 January 2011. PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) Research Infrastructure (RI) allows researchers from across Europe to apply for time on high-performance computers from a series of hosting nations via a central peer review process. Project Access is for access to PRACE Tier-0 computing resources for projects which use codes that may have been previously tested and must have demonstrated high scalability (at least 8k compute cores for JUGENE and for Curie above 2048/1024 cores or above 512 cores with 64 GB of memory used per node or 256 cores with 16 threads allocated per task Curie) and optimisation. European Commission. Call for Proposals: i2i Audiovisual. Deadline 11 January and 6 April 2011. The objective of this support is to facilitate independent European production companies’ access to funding from banks and financial institutions, by co-financing part of the costs of: insurance for audiovisual productions; completion guarantee for the production of an audiovisual work; bank financing for the production of a work. The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency, Call for proposal 2011: Life Long Learning Programme.
The Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) applies to all types and levels of education and vocational education and training. It supports learning opportunities from childhood to old age in every single life situation. The total budget earmarked for this call is estimated at €1.065 million.
The level of grants awarded and the duration of projects vary depending on factors such as the type of project and the number of countries involved.

Deadlines by domain: - Physical Sciences & Engineering: 09 February 2011, - Life Sciences: 10 March 2011, - Social Sciences & Humanities: 06 April 2011. "ERC Advanced Grants" are open to experienced top researchers (awarded PhD more than 10 years) of any nationality working in host institutions in Europe. - European Commission. The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Agency. Call for proposals Tempus IV: Reform of higher education through international university cooperation. Deadline 15 February 2011. The purpose of this call for proposals is to promote multilateral cooperation among higher education institutions, authorities and organisations from EU member states and partner countries with the focus on the reform and modernisation of higher education. - European Commission. Directorate General for Research and Innovation. Call for proposals: Marie Curie Co-funding of regional, national and international fellowship programmes (COFUND). Deadline 17 February 2011. COFUND offers funding to existing or new regional, national and international fellowship programmes for research training and career development. The programme should be open to experienced researchers (i.e. doctorate holders or researchers with at least four years of research experience). It must include at least one form of trans-national mobility, such as incoming or outgoing mobility of researchers or an action to (re)integrate researchers into research employment in Europe after a period of trans-national mobility. Eligible programmes are co-funded for 40% of their fellowship costs, with a maximum Community contribution of € 10 million for any organisation. - The European Commission. Directorate General for Research and Innovation. FP7 People (Marie Curie) programme: Career Integration Grants. Deadline: 08 March 2011. Marie Curie Career Integration Grants (CIG) provide financial assistance to experienced researchers who are offered a stable employment in research in an EU Member State where they have not resided more than 12 months during the previous 3 years immediately prior to the relevant deadline for proposals. - The European Commission. Directorate General for Research and Innovation. FP7 People (Marie Curie) programme: International Research Staff Exchange scheme IRSES. Deadline 17 March 2011. The programme aims to strengthen research partnerships through staff exchanges and networking activities between European research organisations and research organisations from third countries. The partners are expected to propose a multi-annual joint programme as the common basis for their collaboration. This may include joint research and training activities or joint workshops and seminars, as well as other networking activities. For each member of staff from an EU Member State seconded to a Third Country, the Union will pay a flat rate of €1900 per researcher and per month. The European Commission, Directorate General for Research and Innovation. Call for proposal: Marie Curie Industry-Academia Partnerships and Pathways IAPP. Deadline 7 December 2010. An IAPP aims to increase industry-academia cooperation by supporting the creation, development, reinforcement and execution of strategic partnerships with at least one commercial enterprise and one academic organisation in two different European states. The program includes the creation of diverse career possibilities for experienced researchers through secondments, recruitment and networking activities. - The European Commission, Directorate General for Research and Innovation. Call for proposal: Initial Training Networks ITN. Deadline 26 January 2011. An ITN aims at offering a series of fellowships to early-stage researchers through a Joint Training Programme including complementary skills modules. It covers the costs of networking & the organisation of short training events with an option to recruit visiting scientists. An ITN has both industrial and academic partners from at least 3 different European countries, whereby the industry must be either a full partner or a provider of specific training opportunities. - The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control . Call for Tenders:
Surveillance Strategies for Infectious Diseases and Climate Change. Deadline 01 November 2010. The focus of this project is to produce a comprehensive and sophisticated guidance document, to suggest how current epidemiological surveillance of infectious diseases could effectively incorporate environmental variables. - The European Food Safety Authority. Call for Tenders: Non-Dietary Cumulative Exposure Assessment. Deadline: 15 November 2010. The overall objective of the contract is the elaboration of a data collection strategy and the initiation of a data collection (pilot survey study) appropriate for non-dietary cumulative exposure to pesticides and

- The European Commission, Directorate General for Research and Innovation. Call for proposal under the CIVITAS programme SST.2011.3.4-1. Design, implement and test innovative strategies for sustainable urban transport. Projects funded under this topic will design, implement and test integrated transport strategies that address sustainability, whilst improving city vitality, mobility and quality of life. The European Commission, Directorate General for Environment. Call for Tenders: Supporting Green Infrastructure Efficiency and Implementation. Deadline 25 October 2010. The overall objective of this call for tender is to support the implementation of nature and biodiversity policy, especially by improving the knowledge base on the topic and assessing the implementation and efficiency of green infrastructure in Europe. European Commission, Directorate General for Research. FP7 Marie Curie Actions: Industry-Academia Partnerships and Pathways IAPP. Deadline 7 December 2010. The IAPP action seeks to enhance industry-academia cooperation in terms of research training, career development and knowledge sharing, in particular with SMEs, and including traditional manufacturing industries. Participants under this action are one or more research organisations (e.g. universities/research centres) and one or more commercial enterprises, in particular SMEs, that propose a project based on a joint cooperation programme. The usual duration of an IAPP project is 48 months. Any thematic area is eligible for funding, and there is no limit in the budget requested provided all the costs are justified. European Commission, Directorate General for Research. FP7 Marie Curie Actions: Initial training networks. Deadline 26 January 2011. The objective is that institutions which are actively involved in research training (universities, public and private research centres, companies, SME, spin-offs, etc) set up a network and collaborate to recruit research fellows and provide them with opportunities to undertake research in the context of a joint research training programme. The joint research training programme should respond to well identified needs in defined scientific or technological areas, expose the researcher to other sectors including private companies, and offer a comprehensive set of complementary skills (entrepreneurship, IPR, etc.). The purpose of this study is to define the issues relevant to the attractiveness of teaching as a profession, and to map, analyse and evaluate current policy measures in Europe for attracting high quality candidates into teaching. Visit here for more information.
- The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency. Call for tenders: Study on active citizenship in the EU. Deadline: 29 October 2010. This study is intended to deepen understanding of what active citizenship is, the relationship between
active citizenship at local, regional, national and European levels and between individual and collective

- The European Commission, Directorate-General for Research . Call for tenders: Enabling Technologies and open innovation: analysis of conditions for transfer of knowledge. Deadline: 29 October 2010.
The subject of the contract is a study to identify how to bridge the gap between research outputs and the access to the market. The contract is divided into two lots of which Lot 1 is worth € 400 000 and Lot 2 is worth € 500 000. The duration of the contract is 18 months. Visit here for more information.
- The European Commission, Directorate-General Home Affairs. Call for proposals: Prevention of and fight against crime. Deadline: 29 October 2010.
This Call covers four themes: (a) crime prevention and criminology; (b) law enforcement; (c) protection and support to witnesses; (d) protection of victims; and it aims at promoting best practices for the protection and support to witnesses and crime victims. - The European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP). Call for proposals: Evaluating the impact of clinical trials in Africa. Deadline: 15 November 2010. This grant is aimed at gaining comprehensive insight into the impact of clinical trials on health services in sub-Saharan Africa, especially with regard to the quality of those services delivered to women and/or children. Emphasis should be placed on evaluating the impact from the perspective of patients; health professionals; the community; and, public health services at the sites in sub-Saharan Africa, where the clinical trials are being conducted. The European Centre for the development of vocational training CEDEFOP. Call for tenders: Adult Learning in the Workplace - Skill Development to Promote Innovation in Enterprises. Deadline: 06 October 2010. The study explores how skill development can support innovation in enterprises. In particular, it will identify and review policy frameworks, publicly-funded/tripartite programmes and support services that foster innovation in enterprises, at national, regional and sectoral level, in which business development and skill development are closely linked in 10 different European countries. The European Centre for the development of vocational training CEDEFOP. Call for tenders: Green Skills and Environmental Awareness in Vocational Education and Training. Deadline: 07 October 2010. The objective of the study is to identify challenges and priorities for green skills so as to ensure that education and training systems can respond to demand expressed by businesses and benefit from the transition to sustainable, smart and inclusive growth in selected occupations while taking into account EU policies. The European Commission, Executive Agency Education, Audiovisual & Culture. Call for proposal: ‘Europe for Citizens’ programme, Action 2, Measures 1 and 2. Deadline: 15 October 2010. This call for proposals concerns structural support, referred to as operating grants, to organisations making a tangible contribution to the objectives and priorities of the Europe for Citizens programme. - The European Commission, Executive Agency Education, Audiovisual & Culture. Youth in action – Action 4.6 Partnerships. Deadline 8 October 2010. The aim is to support partnership projects with regional or local public bodies (i.e. regions, municipalities, etc.) or with organisations active in the youth sector at European level, which intend to develop or reinforce their long-term actions, strategies and programmes in the field of non-formal learning and youth. - The European Commission, Executive Agency Education, Audiovisual & Culture. Erasmus Mundus – Action 2 Partnerships. Deadline 15 October 2010. The current call for proposals EACEA 22/10 is launched with the specific aim of accomplishing those objectives identified in the cooperation between European and third country higher education institutions from South Mediterranean Region (Egypt, Israel and occupied Palestinian Territory), Central Asian Republics and Western Balkans. - The European Commission. European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / EUROPA NOSTRA awards 2011. Deadline: 01 October 2010. Each year, Europa Nostra and the European Union reward the best of cultural heritage achievements. The awards celebrate exemplary restorations and initiatives of the many facets of Europe’s cultural heritage in 4 categories:
- CONSERVATION. Outstanding achievements in the conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage
- RESEARCH. Outstanding research which leads to tangible effects in the conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage in Europe
- DEDICATED SERVICE by INDIVIDUALS or ORGANISATIONS. Open to individuals or organisations whose contributions over a long period of time demonstrate excellence in the protection, conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage in Europe.
- EDUCATION, TRAINING and AWARENESS-RAISING. Outstanding initiatives related to heritage education, training schemes in cultural heritage conservation, and programmes for raising awareness on cultural heritage.

- The European Cultural Foundation. STEP beyond Travel grants. Deadline: ongoing. STEP beyond – stimulates and supports cross-cultural creative projects in the wider European neighbourhood. It encourages artists and cultural workers to explore unfamiliar territories, network with each other, discover different ways of working and, most importantly, collaborate. STEP beyond – stands for Supporting Travel for European Projects – and offers grants between 350 Euros and 700 Euros to cover travel costs for travelling throughout Europe. - European Commission, Research Infrastructures Tender Call: Financing a software infrastructure for highly parallelised codes. Deadline: 8 September 2010, 16:00 (Brussels time). This is a study to map the parallel codes landscape in Europe and set the framework for the creation of a European software infrastructure available for science and research. Week ending Friday, 23 July
- EuropeAid (EU), EIDHR support to human rights defenders. Deadline: 3 September 2010. These support defenders of human rights and fundamental freedoms working towards enhancing respect for these principles. The total indicative budget for this call is 11 million euros. Grants will be made for amounts between 300,000 euros and 2m euros. Please see here for more information.
- EU Directorate-General for Internal Market and Services, Tender Call: Study on the economic potential of European cross-border pay-to-view and/or -listen to audiovisual media services. Deadline for receipt of tenders or requests to participate: 3 September 2010. The study will provide a systematic analysis of the interdependencies and linkages between the sectors in relation to the labour market and employment. Tender Call: Supply of services in monitoring regulatory and market developments for electronic communications and information society services in enlargement countries. Deadline for receipts of tenders or requests to participate: 31 August 2010 (16:00 Brussels time). The objective of the project is to provide a monitoring tool for assessing progress in the countries concerned on the alignment with the EU framework in electronic communications and information society services. This implies collecting, organising, evaluating and presenting the necessary data in the form of 9-monthly study reports which allow comparative analysis of progress not only on legislative alignment but also on law enforcement and implementation, and on capacities, transparency and independence of regulatory authorities to monitor regulations and market development.
