We currently offer the research degrees of Master of Philosophy (MPhil), Doctor of Philosophy and a range of Professional Doctorates. Prospective research students can contact the Graduate School at gradschool@uel.ac.uk for a postgraduate prospectus and further information on how to apply. We advise that potential applicants consult the relevant academic School web pages and if possible speak to potential supervisors about their research interests and proposals.
The Master of Research programme is a taught postgraduate degree designed to prepare students to undertake advanced research in academic and industrial contexts and provide a foundation for doctoral study. It introduces students to debates about the nature of research and theories of knowledge production and enables them to develop a range of personal and professional skills necessary for the organisation and management of research. Recognising that research is not just carried out in an academic context but in many areas of society, the Master of Research Programme also teaches skills that are easily transferable to any other research context. Students learn from experience about real – world research problems and projects within a topic of their choice. They hone their time-management and team working skills, and gain enhanced competence in written and oral communication skills. The MRes is particularly supportive of part time students as the core modules are run in the evenings. For further information please see www.uel.ac.uk/mres or Carlando Francis, the MRes Course Administrator, via c.francis@uel.ac.uk.
