Dr. Johanna Herman and Dr. Anthony Gunter, both of the School of Law, have been awarded funding by the British Academy for their projects. Johanna's project, "The role of hybrid courts in the institutional and substantive development of international criminal justice" has been awarded £5,959, while Anthony's research, "Youth Crime Prevention Practice and Neighbourhood Policing" has attracted £7,480.

Dr. Yang Li, of the Centre for Geo Information Systems, University of East London, has been awarded £6,640 by the British Academy for his project, " Spatial Accessibility Modelling for Social Infrastructure Planning".

Professor John Preston, Cass School of Education, has been awarded a grant of £864,515 for this project "Game Theory and Adaptive Networks for Smart Evacuations". The project is expected to kick off in October and will run for two years. The funder is the EPSRC in conjunction with the ESRC under their "Next Generation Resilience Scheme". Dr Pete Fussey, School of Law, is also involved in a successful bid under the same scheme. The scheme, which is a collaboration with the University of Southampton, sees Dr Fussey being awarded £139,000 for his project. Angela Harden, Professor of Community and Family Health at UEL will be leading a team of health, education and social science experts to look at inequalities around accessing antenatal care in Newham, with a prestigious £96,000 grant awarded by the Department of Health’s National Institute of Health Research (NIHR).

Neil Herrington, Cass School of Education, has been awarded £1,500 for a piece of contract research funded by DfID - "Local 4 Global".

Dr. Debra Shaw, of the UEL School of Humanities and Social Sciences, has been awarded £600 by the British Academy to enable her to give a paper abroad, through their Overseas Conference Grant scheme.

Professor Chandra Sriram, Director of the Centre on Human Rights in Conflict, School of Law, has been awarded £53,025 by the US Institute for Peace, for a project led by the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights.

Angela Harden, Professor of Community and Family Health at UEL, has been awarded £30,676 by the National Institute of Health Research as part of a project led by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Dr. Volker Thoma, of UEL's School of Psychology, has been awarded £7,020 by the Eclipse Energy Group for a piece of contract research.

Dr. Caroline Edmonds, of the UEL School of Psychology, has secured a £65,000 bursary from Nestle to support a student undertake a PhD into the effects of hydration on cognition.

Professor Don Filtzer, in collaboration with a colleague at Carnegie Mellon University in the United States, has been awarded £41,929 by the American Council of Learned Societies to enable an investigation into the Soviet home front in World War II.

Kevin Sheridan, Institute of Health and Human Development, has been awarded £48,941as part of a networking project funded by RAAK International, led by the University of Rotterdam.
