Jennette Arnold was re-elected on 1 May 2008 as the London Assembly Member for North East London (Hackney, Islington and Waltham). Jennette is Chair of the London Assembly, Deputy Chair of the Business Management and Administration Committee and a member of the Metropolitan Police Authority.
Mike Brace Chair of The British Paralympic Association. At the age of ten Mike was blinded by a firework. His passion for sport, which he used to aid his adjustment and rehabilitation, has continued for the past 40 years. Founder of the Metro Sports Club for the Blind, and involved in the setting up of a number of national sports bodies for the disabled including British Blind Sport, the British Ski Club for the Disabled and the British Paralympic Association. He has also served on a number of working parties such as Sport England’s Strategy Group. A trustee of the British Paralympic Association, The Primary Club and the Disability Sports Development Trust.
Jane Calvert-LeeIn January 2009, Jane Calvert-Lee embarked on a portfolio career having spent over 25 years at the CBI in a variety of roles. From 1988 till 2000 she was the London Director before taking on the role of National Accounts Director.
In 1994, Jane was appointed a Justice of the Peace and sits in the City of Westminster and City of London Magistrates Courts. In 1997 she became a trustee of the Eastman Foundation for Oral Research and Training (EFFORT) and in 2004 a Trustee of the Ford of Britain Trust and a member of the Association of Consulting Engineers’ Advisory Group. In January 2009 Jane joined Saxonbury, a firm committed to helping organisations build leadership capability through team development and recruitment. Jane is a Trustee of Tomorrow’s People, a charity that, over the last twenty years, has helped change the lives of thousands across the UK.
Mark Hannam (Deputy Chair) Mark Hannam is the Chair of Fair Finance, a microfinance company based in East London that offers a range of products and services designed to meet the needs of people who are financially excluded. Previously he spent 12 years working as an investment manager in the City of London, for the Bank of England, Citibank and Barclays.
Mark has PhD in philosophy and is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Institute of Philosophy at the University of London.
Ian has over 30 years of experience in the technology industry. He was formerly Group CTO of Logica plc, Deputy CTO of the BBC and held various positions at GEC Marconi. Ian has extensive experience in the fields of broadcast technology, IT software and services and medical technology. He has advised on projects including the UK’s roll out of Digital Terrestrial Television and the sale of BBC Transmission. He has led the technical due diligence in a number of acquisitions and mergers both at the BBC and at Logica. His international experience includes working with customers in: the Middle East, Asia and central Europe and in setting up a major offshore centre of excellence in India. Ian holds a PhD in Bioengineering from Carnegie Mellon University in the US, an MSc in Bioengineering and a BSc in Electrical Engineering, both from the University of Strathclyde. He is a chartered engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
Lord LoombaFounder Chairman of Rinku Group plc, a knitwear company in the UK, which imports from India and several Far Eastern countries, including China. Lord Loomba is well known for his charitable activities. He set up a charitable trust (the Loomba Trust) to educate children of poor widows in India and is also promoting better understanding and good relations between India and the UK through India First Plc. He has received many honours and awards, including the Asian of the Year Award in the UK in 1997.' Lord Loomba was elevated to the peerage at the beginning of 2011.
Age 60; married to Valerie, with two daughters, Sarah and Julia; educated at Leeds Grammar School and Keble College, Oxford.
On leaving Oxford in 1973, joined Marks & Spencer where he held a range of appointments as a Senior Executive, including a 3 year stint in charge of M&S Foods in Europe, until leaving the company in 1999. He subsequently joined The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company as Group Director of Procurement and Supply Chain with responsibilities worldwide, and then became Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, one of the leading professional bodies for industry, based in London. In April 2006, he joined the London Development Agency as Director 2012, with responsibility for developing and delivering opportunities for business, employment and skills across London, arising from the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and helping to secure an appropriate legacy. In March 2011 Geoff joined the Tennis Foundation as Executive Director. The Tennis Foundation is Great Britain’s leading tennis charity and its vision is a sport which is inclusive and accessible to every kind of community.
Member of The All England Lawn Tennis Club since 1983, and joined the Committee in 1995*. Chairman (and now Vice President) of the International Club of Great Britain between 1994 and 2002, and member of the IC Clubs of France, USA, Australia, Italy and India. Member of the Prentice Cup Committee.
Bogdan PatrinicheBogdan Patriniche is the Head of Origination Eastern Europe at the National Bank of Greece International (NBGI), London. He has for six years held posts as Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Universities of Lyon and Bucharest.
Mark Stephens CBE(Chair of the Board) Mark Stephens studied Law at UEL (then North East London Polytechnic) in the early 1980s and after graduating developed his career as a champion of artistic expression. Now a senior member of the law firm Finers Stephens Innocent, Mark has practised before every level of Court in England and Wales, and regularly appears before the European Court of Human Rights and the Privy Council. Mark is also a prolific commentator, broadcaster, blogger and writer and his views on arts, law, media and human rights are frequently sought by the media. He holds a number of Government sanctioned, regulatory and charitable appointments.
An experienced executive leader with over 20 years experience in local government, voluntary and independent sector. A Barrister and Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing currently employed as a Group Director at Metropolitan Housing Partnership, a major housing organisation owning and managing 38,000 homes. Experienced in delivery of major capital housing and regeneration projects.

School of Computing and Technology. Rae joined UEL as a Student in 1970 and now specialises in information technology in the School of Computing and Technology. His previously held posts included service in the School of Education, the Management Information Unit, and IT Services. He is also the current Chair of the UCU Co-ordinating Committee.
After leaving school at 18 I had a small number of clerical/administration positions. In 1988 I joined Abbey National Building Society as a cashier progressing to a senior customer services assistant and customer service manager. I worked in North West London and then locally in Canning Town, Upton Park and East Ham. In 1999 I started working part-time for a Solicitor in East Ham as a clerical assistant/cashier. The Solicitors were a local agent for Bradford & Bingley Building Society. I remained there until July 2003 when I joined UEL working at the Student Information Centre at Stratford. I have remained in the same position, although the SIC was renamed Student Services Helpdesk in recent years after a re-structure.
Shortly after starting at the University I joined Unison. A few months later I joined the Branch Executive Committee as Publicity Officer. In 2008 I became Branch Secretary. I have recently completed Stage 1 Union Representative training provided by the TUC. In my capacity as Secretary I am the Union representative on the JSCNC and Health & Safety Committee.
During my day to day duties I deal with numerous and various enquires from students. I am currently leading a project along with a colleague in Student Money Advice and Rights Team to find ways of supporting our students with children. This is a vulnerable group who we have both found have to juggle their lives to be able to study and progress.
Outside work I am a leader of a Girls’ Brigade Company and am due to be commissioned as an Officer in the New Year. I am also the Treasurer. I have previously held the position of Treasurer for a local Gingerbread group and have also been an assistant cub leader.
In March 2011 I finished my five year term as Community Governor at Northbury Infant School in Barking.

Hailed as an inspiration to women, Sunny’s long and successful career has spanned business, marketing, education, regeneration, tourism, and the voluntary sector. During her distinguished and successful career in regeneration, for over 20 years she was responsible for the leadership, planning and successful delivery of transformational regeneration initiatives in the City of Portsmouth and in London Docklands.
Currently, she is the Director responsible for mixed use regeneration projects in East London; and a Director of Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation, Places for People Group, and Island Health Trust. She was recently appointed Chair of the Centre of Excellence for Women Entrepreneurs.
Sunny’s achievements have earned many awards, including the first London Docklands Business Person of the Year Award, the Tourism Society Award for Lifetime Achievement, and the first SHINE Award for ‘being an inspiration to other women’.
She was honoured with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Civic Award for contributions to Business and the Community and with an OBE for Business, Regeneration and Tourism in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. She was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Business Administration by the University of East London.
Kenny Tang CFA Dr Tang has a PhD from the University of Cambridge and is a leading global authority in the area of sustainability, climate change and the low-carbon economy as founder CEO of Oxbridge Climate Capital. He writes regularly for the Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal, and has published a number of books on climate change.
Director of the Institute for Health and Human Development (IHHD). Adrian is a Public Health Physician with 25 years of experience in multi-methods research at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, and subsequently Imperial College. He is an honorary consultant in Public Health Medicine with the London Strategic Health Authority and the Health Protection Agency. Adrian works both internationally and in the UK. Over the last 10 years he has directed two Research Programmes on HIV and Development funded by the UK Department for International Development. In the UK he has recently completed three studies of health and social wellbeing in Black and Minority Ethnic Communities and migrant populations funded by Local Authorities, and the Medical Research Council as well as a number of studies in mental health services research.
Adrian was appointed as the Director of IHHD in March 2006. His current objectives are to build the Institute’s profile as a major international research and intervention centre focusing on understanding the social economic and cultural determinants of health and wellbeing, and the use of social, economic and cultural approaches to enhance population health and wellbeing.
