Who’s Who

There are over fifty staff working within Financial Services, who are mainly drawn from our local communities here in East London. Between us we can speak about ten different languages.

Charlotte Lowe is responsible for the provision of administrative support to Nirmal and assists colleagues in Financial services with the day to day running of the service. (020 8223 2568) Charlotte is a member of the Vice Chancellor’s Support Group.

Financial Services is made up of three strands: Stewardship (managed by the Chief Accountant), Management Accounting (managed by the Chief Management Accountant) and Procurement (Managed by the Head of Procurement)

Stewardship

Our Chief Accountant is Keith Willett (FCCA). Keith started working for the University as a trainee accountant in 1991 and progressed to his current role, when he qualified. Keith is responsible for the Stewardship functions within the service. There are over 40 staff working within Stewardship.

Inba Lawrence (MBA) is our financial accountant. Inba joined UEL in 1989. She brought with her a wealth of commercial accounting experience, some of which were utilised when setting up UEL’s various financial ledgers and procedures. Inba is responsible for 12 members of staff across four teams; Payments, Cashiers, Administration and Financial Accounting.  

The Cashiering Team is supervised by our senior cashier Awosanya Awosedo; who joined us as a Cashier in 2003, before moving to his current role in 2005. He supervises three cashiers and is one of the Service’s First Aid Officers.

Emma Fisk (MICM) is our Credit Manager and has been in her current role at UEL since 2001. Emma became a member of the Institute of Credit Managers in 2006 and has previously worked at the Bank of England, P&O Nedlloyd & Maersk. She is a member of our Student Lifecycle Group and is responsible for 8 members of staff. 

Cindy Parkyn is the Assistant Credit Manager. Cindy has worked at UEL for 10 years and has been in her current role since 2001. Cindy has 20 years credit control experience having previously worked in the shipping, finance and leasing industries. She has a foundation award in Credit Management. Cindy is responsible for the training and day to day supervision of 7 staff.

Sabrina Kadambi (MBA) is our Head of Student Registry. She is responsible for 10 staff dealing with matters related to Student Records, Assessment, Fees and Systems (i.e. the online enrolment). Sabrina’s responsibilities include: planning, organising and managing enrolment operations throughout the year, briefing and training staff in Schools and Services as well as temporary staff, the Fees Schedule, the Fees Policy, the development and implementation of online and manual systems, processes and procedures. Sabrina has joined UEL in 2010, having previously worked at  the London School of Economics in a similar role and has been  involved in student administration for over 10 years.  Sabrina is also a member of a number of committees including: Fees Working Group, Enrolment Planning Group, HESA Working Group and Collaborative Administrators Forum.

Lee Melvin is our Data Administrator, her responsibilities include assisting in the development of Corporate Systems and administrative processes to improve data quality, training staff on SITS student ledger, facilitating in the Validation exercise and maintaining the Student Loans Company accounts. She has been in this role at UEL for four years and has a BSC in Information Systems.

Management Accounts

Our Chief Management Accountant is Adrian Harris (CIMA) who has been with UEL for six years. He has previous experience with the BBC and the Metropolitan Police. Adrian looks after our budgets and provides strategic planning and costing advice. His team of 7 includes our Commercial Accountant and Budget Accountant, both of whom were former accounting trainees.

Wan Leet Lim (FCCA) has been the Commercial Accountant since 1993, within his role he is responsible for the accounting for research and other externally funded projects. Lim is responsible for two staff members the Assistant Grant Accountant and Finance Assistant.

Anna Brimson (ACCA) has been in her current role as Budget Accountant since 2006, having worked within Financial Services since 1999, she was an Assistant Commercial Accountant prior to taking up her present appointment. She is responsible for a team of 3 who provide support for budgetary control, advice on the cost effectiveness of activities and accounting services for our subsidiary company Knowledge Dock (UEL) Ltd.

Procurement

Our Procurement team is managed by Chris Philpott (CIPS) who is our Head of Procurement, Chris previously worked in a similar role for a local council and is responsible for 2 staff members.
