University of East London NSP Bursary of £3000

What is the UEL National Scholarship Programme (NSP) Bursary?

The UEL NSP Bursary is our way of ensuring that you have the money you need to study at university. We’ve listened carefully to our applicants who have told us the importance of having cash (or credit!) in their pockets rather than reduced tuition fees.

If you make UEL your first choice when you apply to university you could be eligible to receive £3,000 when you start your studies. You will get £1000 cash and £2000 worth of credits, which is put on your Progress Card, for things like books, travel, accommodation, computer equipment and membership to our SportsDock.

You’ll also be able to get a student loan to pay your tuition fees so this money will be yours to spend as you wish.

Who can get this bursary?

University of East London NSP bursaries are paid to students who meet the following general eligibility criteria. You must be:

  • applying to be an undergraduate student from England (home fee status)
  • entering higher education for the first time in September 2012 or February 2013
  • applying during the main UCAS cycle, ie no later than 31 June 2011 (September 2012

The bursary will not be available to:

  • Students who enrol during clearing
  • NHS-funded students (these are Podiatry and Social Work students)
  • any other students whose fees are paid or part-paid through a sponsorship arrangement.

Can I still get student loans and grants?

Yes you can.  You can get financial support from the government or UEL which normally would be:

  • Student loans to cover your tuition fees and living costs and, depending on your family income; a grant that doesn’t have to be paid back
  • The UEL Progress Bursary of £1,100 of credits to spend on computers, books, travel etc
  • A range of other UEL scholarships and bursaries

Our SMART (Student Money Advice and Rights Team) can advise you on the support available according to your personal circumstances. You can make an individual appointment to see them by emailing smart@uel.ac.uk

Will the offer be the same at all universities?

No, each university will decide on the package of financial support available to the value of £3,000 per student. At UEL we have listened to our current and prospective students who have told us the importance of having money available during their studies rather than reduced tuition fees.

What do I have to do to register for the UEL NSP?

There is no need to apply for the bursary. We will automatically assess your eligibility based on the information you provide to us (usually via UCAS) about the school/college you are currently studying at and the information about your household income that you provide to Student Finance England as part of your student loan application.
