Fee assessment

Will I pay the 'home' or 'overseas' fee?

The education departments of the UK Government, the Scottish Executive, the Welsh Assembly Government and the Northern Ireland Assembly decide which categories of student must be charged the lower, 'home' fee. There are many different categories of 'home' fee payer, and the regulations can be quite complicated. We have produced summaries of these regulations for you.

The UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) have produced a useful guide to fee assessment entitled: Tuition fees: will I pay the 'home' or 'overseas' rate?

How we assess your fee status

If we require further information from you to determine your fee status we will send you a fee assessment form for you to complete and return to us with supporting evidence. In the majority of cases the evidence we require is:

  • A current passport and any other supporting documentation that you have to show that you have the right to remain with in the UK, or
  • Your driving licence, birth certificate and 3 years of bank statements/bills (1 for each year)

You can find further information and answers to some of the following questions on the UKCISA website:

  • Am I insured for fees?
  • I applied for asylum and was granted Discretionary Leave. Have there been changes to tuition fees regulations affecting people in my situation?
  • What is happening to tuition fees in England in 2012 onwards?
