Undergraduate full-time 2013/14 fees and funding

Funding

Tuition fee loans and maintenance (living costs) loans

Tuition Fee loans are available to help pay the cost of your tuition fees. They are paid directly to the university by the government and are available to most new full-time undergraduate UK and EU students.

Maintenance loans are also available to full-time home (UK) students only to help pay for living costs (food, travel, accommodation etc).  The amount you receive depends on where you live and study.  The maximum Maintenance Loan for students starting in 2013/14 is:

  • £7,675 if you live away from home and study at a university in London
  • £4,375 if you live at home

Your Tuition Fee and your Maintenance Loan (if you take one) are rolled into one and you start to pay this back once you have finished your course and are earning over £21,000. Find out more about how you will be expected to repay your loan.

Maintenance (living cost) grants

Maintenance grants are available to full-time home (UK) students from lower income families. Full-time students from families with annual incomes of less than £42,600 may be entitled to a grant of up to £3,354 to help pay towards living costs (food, travel, accommodation etc) while studying. The amount you receive depends on your household income. Grants do not have to repaid.
