Richard Lindsay, Head of the Environmental Research Group (University of East London) and Visiting Professor (University of Tokyo) will be presenting a seminar entitled ' The urban jungle: why we need urban greenspace'. This talk will launch a new series of sustainability-themed seminars given by staff at UEL and other London universities. The seminar will be held at 4.30 - 6 pm, EB.2.88, East Building, Docklands campus.
Abstract: ‘Although the human race is now a predominantly urban species and therefore nature may seem increasingly irrelevant to everyday life, a number of perhaps surprising lines of evidence suggest that Nature continues to be important to us at a profound level, even within our urban lives. However, if we do not recognize this fundamental need we risk suffering ‘nature-deficit disorder’. Our capacity to provide for this need depends on our ability to recognize that greenspace is more than just green space’
The Environmental Research Group will officially become part of UEL's Sustainability Research Institute following university restructuring in September 2011. The move will strengthen collaborative working between the two research groups and facilitate the delivery of the numerous collaborative research and knowledge exchange projects into which both research groups are contributing:
