




The Environmental Research Group (ERG) forms part of UEL's Sustainability Research Institute.
As a group, the ERG embrace research across a wide range of environmental issues, including peatland, insect and freshwater ecology, botany and ethnobotany, carbon budgeting, nature conservation, environmental quality, environmental forensic science, sustainability and quality of life, virtual environments and virtual learning.
Within the ERG there are individual research units:
Peatland Research Unit (PRU) undertakes research and consultancy work in relation to peatland ecology and conservation issues;
Environmental Microbiology Research Unit (EMRU) utilises a range of molecular ecology techniques for environmental research;
Invertebrate Ecology Research Unit (IERU) promotes invertebrate conservation through research, consultancy projects and publicity with a particular focus on the East Thames Corridor.

The ERG actively promotes the development and conservation of biodiversity across the UEL campuses. As part of this commitment we have developed a biodiversity survey methodolgy and supported the development of UEL's Biodiversity Action Plan. For further information seeUEL Green Thing.
The ERG has secured funding for a PhD studentship to investigate urban biodiversity and innovative green infrastructure. Funding is provided through the TURaS FP7 programme.
