About the Environmental Research Group

The Environmental Research Group (ERG) embraces research across a wide range of environmental issues, including peatland, insect and freshwater ecology, botany and ethnobotany, carbon budgeting, nature conservation, environmental quality, environmental forensic science, sustainability and quality of life, virtual environments and virtual learning.

Within the ERG there are individual research units: 

Peatland Research Unit (PRU) undertakes much research and consultancy work in relation to peatland ecology and conservation issues; 

Environmental Microbiology Research Unit (EMRU) utilises a range of molecular ecology techniques for environmental research;

Invertebrate Ecology Research Unit (IERU) The IERU promotes invertebrate conservation through research, consultancy projects and publicity with a particular focus on the east Thames corridor.
