Honorary Award Holders

2011 honorary graduates| 2010 honorary graduates | 2009 honorary graduates |

Each year the University of East London, gives honorary awards to distinguished individuals, who are outstanding in their field of endeavour and who deserve recognition for their achievements. By accepting an association with the University of East London, our honorary graduates join the extended family of friends and supporters who are active in our main communities of interest.

In selecting the individuals, we always look for a reason which goes beyond the personal distinction of the individual concerned. Most often that reason is that the individual was born in, has lived in, has worked in, or has had some involvement with East London and the surrounding area. Over the years we have celebrated many people from our local borough’s who have succeeded in different walks of life and enhanced the reputation of East London.

We are also very keen to celebrate high achievers with a strong connection to our university - be they former students or staff, public figures who have shown a commitment to our institution, or persons with whom one or more members of staff have enjoyed a particularly fruitful academic collaboration.

Our global reach work sometimes means that we may choose people with no direct East London connections but, because of their commitment to the values which have long been associated with our university and its predecessor institutions. This can and has included individuals of exceptional academic distinction from anywhere in the world.

We are proud to have such a wide selection of inspirational, positive role models as our Honorary Award Holders; to find out more about our recent Honorary Graduates, please click the links above.

2012 Honorary Award Holders Annual Dinner

House of Lords, 30th January 2012House of Lords 2012

In January of this year, an immensely enjoyable evening was spent for our annual get together of honorary graduates.  The prestigious dinner was our 10th celebration at the House of Lords with our host, The Lord Rix Kt CBE DL.  Guests were welcomed at dinner by Lord Rix, Chair of Governors, Mark Stephens and our Vice Chancellor, Professor Patrick McGhee.

The always popular event was attended by a wide range of our honorary graduates from across the years.  Many of our 2011 guests were there such as Debra Bourne,Tom Hunter, Philip Hedley and Aslie Pitter. They were also joined by many longer standing members of the UEL community such as HM Chief Inspector Michael Fuller and Dr Davina Lloyd.

All of the guests had a fantastic time in a fantastic setting and we are already looking forward to our next dinner in 2013!
