UEL telemarketing campaign for 2009/2010 is now complete. Our students raised over £85,000 in donations and pledges from our alumni for the Annual Fund. The amount includes donations and pledges by the alumni and will be topped up by a further 50% to a potential £127,500 by the Government’s Matched Funding Scheme.

"The Telethon is a fantastic tool which allows us to engage withthe university's Alumni on a one-to-one basis. It gives us a chance to let our Alumni know what the university has been up to since they left and give them an update on our future development plans. It also provides a good opportunity for our graduates to be involved with the future development plans of the university and lend their support to the Annual Fund Projects. Our student callers, on the other hand, will gain invaluable advice from our Alumni and gain work experience. As the Annual Fund Officer at the University of East London, I am very proud of both UEL's team of hard working student callers and its generous Alumni. It is great to know that so many people are on board with the university’s future development plans and become a 'Friend of UEL'. As expected, our alumni have proved to be a passionate and generous source of support for their university, and we look forward to strengthen the relationship between our students, staff and alumni in the years to come”. Charlie Tyce – Annual Fund Officer
The campaign has significant non-financial gains which are equally -if not more -important than the financial results. These include enhancing 'student experience' for over 80 students by:

What Our Callers have to say

Becky Armstrong 3rd year student in Special Needs and Inclusive Education - Cass School of Education and Communities
“I think this campaign provides a great experience for students and alumni to be more involved with their university. The university has a great cause for fundraising, and to get our alumni understand our development projects and support the university is a great way to expand the support network of UEL.Students get a chance to speak to our alumni, while working in professional capacity and learning new skills. It has been a fantastic opportunity for me to be involved with this campaign and I have found it very fulfilling and rewarding.”
Raqs Ahasan 1st year student in Accounting and Finance - RDBS
“The Fundraising Campaign is one of the most exciting jobs that I have ever done in all my life, because the nature of the job is extremely appealing to me: it provides direct contact with the graduates of this university and it gives me a chance to discuss the future plans of the university with them. I am very honoured to be part of the future of UEL and I would not have second thoughts to do it again”.
Gagan Jay 3rd year student in International Tourism - Royal Docks Business School
“Since I started working as a student caller for the fundraising campaign of the Development and Alumni Office, I have learnt a lot about the issues that universities face regarding funding and new development plans. So when I graduate, I will be more empathic and certainly consider supporting UEL”.
Auzzam Chaudhri 1st year student in Computer Networks - CITE
“It is so important to help the future generation of students by supporting the development plans of the university through its fundraising campaigns. The campaign produces first hand experienced of life after graduation when we speak with our alumni. The job is very nice and the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. I feel very happy to be part of this campaign and I have made several very good friends.”
Corinne Linton 3rd year Student in Psycho-social Studies - School of Social Sciences and Humanities
“I have found the campaign really rewarding. It is a good chance to give back to the university that has given me the opportunity to learn and study. I have really enjoyed it. The experience is very beneficial for raising awareness for the university’s development plans while it is also lovely to talk to our alumni. This experience has given me a good insight how to think about life after graduation and how to keep in touch with my university.”
