Times Higher Education magazine is running a short-video competition open to anyone who works or studies at a university.

All you need to do is produce a short video (10 seconds or less) and you could win an iPad and the chance for your short film to feature in the Times World University Rankings. Read more

Tell your students: Paid internships for UEL black and minority ethnic graduates

The Taylor Bennett Foundation is offering an award-winning PR training and internship programme to encourage BAME graduates to pursue a career in PR.

They are offering a 10-week full-time communications and personal development training programme, specifically designed to strengthen students' skills and provide them with industry relevant work experience.

The deadline is Monday 20 August, so please pass the message on to any students you may feel are suitable.

UEL student, Nichola Lowry, on her Olympic volunteer experience

Photography student, Nichola Lowry, was a volunteer professional photographer at Gallions Reach Primary School.

She tells us about her experience: "I learnt about this great volunteering opportunity through the UEL Employability and Enterprise Volunteering Scheme.

"Gallions Reach Primary School were looking for a volunteer to photograph an arts festival and Olympic Games-related activities [that] were being run to celebrate the Games coming to Newham.

"I volunteered because it was a brilliant opportunity for me to gain experience, see how UEL's neighbouring local schools are celebrating the Games and to put into practice some of the techniques that I have learnt this year..."

Travel advice - Wednesday 8 August

bullet  The basketball finals start at the North Greenwich Arena today, which means the Jubilee line will be exceptionally busy very late into the evening (from 9pm to close).

bullet  Embankment, Westminster, London Bridge and North Greenwich stations will all be particularly busy.

bullet The DLR, Central, Piccadilly, District and Jubilee lines will all be very busy throughout the day, with the busiest times expected to be 7.30-10am and 4.30-8pm.
