Teacher Training: Communication Courses

Before the course

We run courses before the start of the PGCE Programme to help students build up their confidence in different aspects of communication. The four modules are

Some people are asked to do a communication course before they start their PGCE, others choose to do one or more of the modules in order to gain greater confidence or to improve particular skills.

If you think a communication course would help you, please e-mail Sheila Morrissey on s.morrissey@uel.ac.uk

During the course

There is also support available once you have started your PGCE Programme – a weekly session to improve articulation and, if necessary, pronunciation; to work on giving your voice greater strength and flexibility; and to look at any other aspects of communication which would help you.

Once you are on teaching practice, you may find things go wrong with your voice (e.g. voice strain, not enough power, lack of range). Extra help is then available to work on your particular problem.

Again, if you are interested in improving your vocal skills or would like help with something specific, please e-mail Sheila Morrissey on s.morrissey@uel.ac.uk
