The Cass School of Education is a highly successful provider of teacher training and educational programmes, playing a key role in the provision of education services throughout East London and beyond. We have expanded rapidly, and now have more than 2,200 students enrolled, 1,900 of these on campus, together with 85 contracted staff and a considerable number of fractional staff.
In the 2007 Ofsted inspection, UEL's primary initial teacher training provision passed again with flying colours, with management and quality assurance rated as of good quality. Our Post Compulsory Education and Training and Continuing Professional Development for teachers are graded as good.
Our Secondary initial teacher training programmes have been awarded a Grade 1 (Outstanding), the highest possible grade, for training and the management and quality assurance, making us a Category A provider.
Our Foundation degree for Teaching Assistants, in collaboration with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and the Barking Learning Centre won the London Education Partnership Award for Cross-Organisational Partnership and Impact.
The School encourages research in a variety of ways. Staff are engaged in a variety of research projects including bilingualism, linguistics, support for black pupils and students, early childhood and comparative education. All research is framed by ethical guidelines which pay particular attention to the situation of children. There is a programme of research seminars within the School.
The School has a strong commitment to developing collaborative partnerships and has excellent relationships with a range of partners for Initial Teacher Education, Continuing Professional Development and Post Compulsory Education and Training and has franchised programmes with a number of colleges. We have also developed a range of exciting collaborative projects with local schools, Local Authorities and communities. These include the development of an innovative MA Education programme which enables individuals and groups to design their own assessment routes and pedagogic style, Foundation Degrees for Teaching Assistants, a BA in Youth and Community Work, accredited by the National Youth Agency, a Masters in Early Childhood and Special Educational Needs and a Professional Doctorate.
