Using and Researching Dual Language Books for Children

Some starting points for projects and research

  1. Exploring issues of culture, language, identity and personal experience with young children through books that reflect these issues.
  2. Introducing young children to children’s literature in their first language in the early years / school setting
  3. Using literature in first language and English to support parents in maintaining the family language
  4. Supporting the learning of English for children who speak another language in the home or for new arrivals
  5. Language learning and sharing for young children
  6. Awareness of languages in the context of the National Languages Strategy in primary schools
  7. Using dual language books as part of a strategy for creating a multilingual and multicultural ethos in early years / school settings
  8. Issues in translation and of the appropriate language variety for children’s dual language books in different contexts
  9. Case studies of how individual children and/or their families use dual text books
