Using and Researching Dual Language Books for Children

What's New: INFO and NETWORKING

Since this website went live at the end of July 2007, I have realised from the large number of messages I have received from teachers, EAL consultants and publishers that it is a useful site for networking and for sharing information about resources, strategies and research opportunities.

Please find below some new information:

Please get in touch if you have:

Raymonde Sneddon, with thanks to the colleagues who have contributed the valuable information below. (r.m.sneddon@uel.ac.uk)

The Talking Pen / The Recorder Pen

There have been many new developments in resources for the Talking and Recorder Pens. The pens support the use of a wide range of sound-enabled resources that include dual language picture books, friezes, posters and subject packs for use in the classroom.

Colleagues and friends of this site are planning to carry out some action research into the use this “magic pen”, created by Mantra Lingua.. We would be interested in any ideas, suggestions and reports from colleagues who have used it in the classroom. Full information and video demonstrations of the pen on the website www.talkingpen.co.uk  .

macaronicpress@yahoo.com California based publisher of parallel texts in English, French, Spanish and German for language teaching. The publisher is planning to extend the range of languages and is seeking partners in research and development.
Vivien LaMotte writes: “I am also developing a supplementary curriculum to introduce young language learners to comparative and historical linguistics, which I believe can provide extraordinarily useful language learning aids throughout the life of language learners, especially if introduced at formative learning ages (such as when first learning to read).  I would be very interested in dialogue with anybody interested in this area, and possible collaboration or co-production.”
